People Profile: Freya Eardley

Welcome to our series of ‘people profiles’, highlighting the wonderful team at Waterloo Quay dedicated to ensuring our clients receive the best experience. Next up it's Freya Eardley!

What is your role, what does it include, and how long have you worked for WQ?

I began my journey with Waterloo Quay Properties in 2013, where I started as a Facilities Administrator and progressed as a Facilities Supervisor until I left in 2017. I moved to another local firm to broaden my knowledge of commercial portfolios and to gain some knowledge in the residential property sector too. Since then, I returned to WQP in February 2020 securing the position of Operations Director where I work closely with the Facilities Management Department as well as the Landlords of the campus. The operations of WQP is critical to making sure that our tenants and members have the highest quality of service and customer care that they deserve. Our Front of House and FM team members are a massive part of making this happen.

How has WQ helped you in your career development?

As a school leaver, I wasn’t quite sure what path I wanted to take but I had always had an interest in construction and property. I followed my heart and completed an apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating which are four years that I will always cherish. This gave me the foundations of understanding building sites, general knowledge on working with different contractors and industries as well as a good understanding of Health and Safety. I then knew that I wanted to work on the planning and organising side of the fence and secured a job with WQP in 2013. I grew and developed my skills over the years and learnt not just from my employer but from existing relationships with contractors that I had trusted over the years. Returning 7 years later with the opportunity to take a Directors role was a huge achievement for me.

What are you proudest of accomplishing?

I will but a business and personal accomplishment in here as I think that it is important to have the right balance. I will always remember my apprenticeship as a massive achievement for me, especially being a female in the construction industry at such a young age. The industry has moved on so much from when I started and it is a lot more inclusive, which is great to see.

On a personal note, I have completed the Virgin London Marathon twice in 2012 and 2013 (after vowing I wouldn’t do it again after my first one!). I love running and would run every day if I could!

If you did not work for WQ, what would you be doing?

I have a huge passion for marine life and conservation. I would love to have more time to be able to travel and help in more ways than I am able to do at the moment. It does help that it is being recognised a lot more but we are a long way off from where we need to be to protect our seas
